Founded in 1988: Applied Microbiology and Commercial Fermentation
Bio-Green Planet traces its origins to October 1988, when Bio-Genesis Technology was founded with the goal of formulating and marketing cost-effective microbial products for environmental and industrial applications. From the beginning, the company focused on applied microbiology and commercial-scale fermentation, developing high-CFU microbial formulations designed to solve real-world treatment challenges.
By 1996, the company had expanded internationally, establishing distribution partnerships outside the United States and laying the foundation for long-term global growth:

Early Leadership in Biological Wastewater Treatment
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, biological wastewater treatment became a core area of specialization. The company developed high-CFU microbial blends for municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants, including activated sludge processes, lagoon-based systems, lift stations, and wastewater collection networks.
These formulations were engineered to support reduction of BOD, COD, and TSS, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide control, sludge digestion, and improved stability of biological treatment systems. This period established deep expertise in wastewater microbiology and large-scale fermentation technology.
2006: Strategic Mergers and the Acquisition of ABI
In 2006, a major milestone occurred with the merger of PT Green Planet of Indonesia and SuperBac of Brazil, along with the acquisition of Applied Biotech Industries (ABI) in the United States.
The ABI acquisition strengthened U.S.-based fermentation capacity, strain development capabilities, and manufacturing infrastructure. By integrating these operations, Bio-Green Planet evolved into a vertically integrated microbial manufacturer with expanded global reach.
This consolidation enabled scalable production of biological wastewater treatment bacteria, livestock waste treatment microbes, hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria, and environmental remediation formulations.
Global Expansion
To support continued international growth, Bio-Green Planet expanded its global presence:
Shanghai office opened in 2009
Los Angeles office established in 2010
Jakarta office opened in 2013
These expansions strengthened technical support and distribution across more than 40 countries, serving wastewater operators, environmental contractors, agricultural distributors, and industrial clients worldwide.
Livestock Waste and Manure Lagoon Treatment
Building on wastewater expertise, the company expanded into livestock waste management and manure lagoon treatment. Microbial formulations were developed to improve organic solids digestion, reduce ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, and enhance odor control in manure pits and lagoons.
High-CFU soluble blends and tablet technologies such as Pit Puck® provided simplified application for dairy, swine, and poultry operations, extending biological treatment principles into agricultural waste systems.
Petroleum, Oil-Eating Bacteria, and Hydrocarbon Bioremediation
As environmental remediation demand expanded, Bio-Green Planet began manufacturing hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria, petroleum bioremediation microbes, and oil-eating bacteria for contaminated soil and wastewater systems.
Applications include oil and grease contaminated wastewater, petroleum-impacted soil remediation, grease trap treatment, lift station maintenance, and parts washer fluid management. This diversification strengthened the company’s position in industrial environmental bioremediation.
Aquaculture and Pond Treatment Solutions
In response to increasing demand for biological water quality management, Bio-Green Planet developed aquaculture probiotic bacteria and beneficial pond bacteria for fish farms, shrimp ponds, golf course ponds, decorative water features, and stormwater retention systems.
Slow-release block technologies such as Muck Fighter® and high-CFU soluble formulations were introduced to reduce organic load, improve water clarity, and support dissolved oxygen stability in pond bacteria treatment programs.
2018: Launch of the Agricultural Division
In 2018, Bio-Green Planet formally launched its agricultural division, marking a strategic expansion into microbial biofertilizers and soil inoculants.
Leveraging decades of fermentation and strain development expertise, the company began manufacturing high-CFU Bacillus- and Trichoderma-based formulations designed to improve soil health, nutrient efficiency, root development, and crop performance.
Products such as Sunrise and Multi-Tricho were developed to serve organic, regenerative, and conventional agriculture markets. Select formulations achieved OMRI Listing and state registrations as microbial soil amendments.
2025: Agriculture Becomes the Largest Business Segment
In 2025, agricultural and crop products surpassed 50 percent of total company sales, becoming the largest segment of Bio-Green Planet’s global operations.
This milestone reflects sustained growth in microbial biofertilizers, soil inoculants, and plant health solutions, as growers increasingly adopt high-CFU biological inputs to improve nutrient efficiency, soil health, and crop performance.
While wastewater treatment, livestock waste management, petroleum bioremediation, and aquaculture remain important markets, agriculture now represents the primary driver of company expansion and innovation.
Continued Investment in Fermentation and Manufacturing
Throughout every stage of growth, Bio-Green Planet has maintained in-house fermentation and formulation capabilities in the United States.
The manufacturing platform supports:
High-CFU powder and granular blends
Liquid microbial concentrates
Water-soluble tablets
Slow-dissolve blocks
Every production batch undergoes CFU verification, contamination screening, and shelf-stability testing to ensure consistent performance across environmental and agricultural applications.
A Global Microbial Manufacturer
From its founding in 1988 to its present position as a global supplier across more than 40 countries, Bio-Green Planet has evolved into a diversified microbial manufacturer serving municipal wastewater systems, livestock operations, environmental remediation projects, aquaculture facilities, and agricultural distributors worldwide.
With more than three decades of applied microbiology and commercial fermentation experience, the company continues to expand its leadership in both biological treatment and agricultural biofertilizer markets.
